Seven Ways SES Simplify Your Software Escrow Journey

Published on 05/08/2020

Software Escrow is essential to protect your business applications, especially those which are bespoke, highly customised, business critical or revenue generating as the time and financial cost of sourcing suitable alternatives in the event your supplier is unable to support them can be astronomical.

On the surface, the concept of Software Escrow protection is similar, whichever provider you choose. Source code and/or data is stored securely until your software owner is no longer available to support their application, at which point the source code and data deposits are released, enabling you to continue to use the application with minimal disruption to your business.

There are, however, a number of factors including the services offered, levels of security, accreditations and cost which vary from provider to provider. At SES we have made it our mission to simplify the Software Escrow process and below we have presented seven ways we simplify your journey to protecting all of your critical applications.

1. Bespoke agreements covering all applications/clients

Is your application installed on-premise or hosted? How many clients/ applications will the agreement cover? Will the agreements require new clients to sign up or will it be non-signatory? SES listens to your individual requirements and builds bespoke Escrow protection to meet your needs.

2. SaaS/Cloud Escrow agreements: Unlimited deposits as standard

To protect the most critical aspect of your SaaS/Cloud applications, the data. SES allows unlimited deposits of data throughout year as standard. This enables your supplier to regularly update backups of application data using our secure SFTP facility, ensuring that upon release you will always have access to the most up to date version of your applications data.

3. Testing: Audio-visual recording of the build

For all applications which are bespoke, highly customised, business critical or revenue generating, SES strongly recommend performing Remote Code Validation on your Escrow deposits. This process involves and SES testing consultant witnessing your supplier performing a full audit rebuild of the Escrow deposit into functioning software and documenting the process into what we refer to as a build manual which the end user can follow to accurately redeploy their application.

In addition to Remote Code Validation testing, SES can also perform a Simulated Release Event which demonstrates the Escrow deposit, coupled with the build manual can be used to effectively redeploy your application.

4. Security and accreditations

Here at SES, security and privacy are our primary focus. All source code deposits, regardless of agreement type are encrypted to ensure the highest level of security.

SES also hold a number of accreditations internally for our Software Escrow service including ISO: 27001 and Cyber Essentials which demonstrate our commitment to ensuring processes meet strict regulations of Information Security Management and we only work with partners who also hold ISO: 27001 to ensure your Escrow deposit is protected throughout its journey with SES.

5. Free transfer of your existing Software Escrow portfolio

Our Free Transfer Offer enables you to transfer your entire existing Software Escrow portfolio to SES at no additional cost. There are no setup fees and SES will manage the entire process on your behalf.

6. Client satisfaction
